SOMETIMES, NOTHING SAYS ‘OCTOBER’ like a few photos. Here’s my quick pick of quick pix from Halloween Week on Center Island.

A fallen maple leaf cradles a gnarled little mushroom.
Another mushroom sprouts from the forest duff.
Indian corn hangs beneath the sign by my cabin door.

My ghostly white pumpkin — soon to be a jack o’ lantern — keeps company with the Nuthatch’s Welcome Frog.

Happy Halloween, all, from my little island nobody’s heard of.
